Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

I am enclosing the exact text of General Montgomery's speech.
The impression Gen. Montgomery made on everyone was immense. Although not very 'combat' looking, he was not wearing any 'service' uniform with a pistol or baton, nor any special service boots or camouflage. He was dressed like an Englishman in a sporting manner with warm gloves, wearing a beret with two armoured regiment insignia.
Nevertheless, the impression was great when he walked and talked to the soldiers. There was no sign of an old gentleman in him1, but of a tough and resilient man capable of anything, determined to see through to the end any goal he set out to achieve. The troops liked him very much. They said, "this General Montgomery is first-rate."

1 An amusing comment from Kazimierz: in March 1944, General Montgomery was 56 years old. (born on 17 November 1887, died on 24 March 1976), Kazimierz was only 32.
