Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

The 1st platoon is almost destroyed. Lieutenant Janikowski was wounded, his deputy was wounded and eighteen other soldiers. The 1st platoon was relieved, and the 2nd platoon went to the battle line, commanded by Lieutenant Błajdy. The latter was wounded 10 minutes after his arrival, as well as 4 men with him.
The command of this platoon, which was very demoralised and found itself in the situation "We don't know what to do", was taken over by the squadron leader, Captain Duda.
Part of the platoon piled up with the heavy machine guns in a ditch, another part found itself under the cover of ruined houses, they sat quietly and did not move, as the town was under heavy mortar and artillery fire.
Finally the platoon found itself in position. The enemy was constantly firing and inflicting casualties.
We stood still, waiting for a bomb to fall on our heads. Our artillery and mortars were active all day and night. However, the objectives were extensive, as the forest protected the enemy effectively.
The Germans, entrenched in good bunkers, held on and could not be removed.
