Then, when the mortars were assigned to the battalions due to the proximity of the enemy and the ignorance of the situation, they could fulfil the role of a rifle platoon, as happened on hill 262-"Maczuga1".
Mortars were not used immediately because the tactical situation was unknown, despite repeated requests from the battalions to oppose enemy mortar fire which was causing them colossal losses.
Nevertheless, the platoons performed admirably; in the opinion of Divisional Headquarters, 3rd Brigade Command and all the troops - the Squadron showed itself to be a good unit.
