Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

The tank squadron of one of the armoured regiments suffered huge losses in equipment and when it became clear that they could not hold this bridgehead, the equipment was destroyed by its own crews.
Finally on 1 November the 8th Battalion abandoned the bridgehead and withdrew to the south bank of the Mark Canal.
During this action of November 1st, from the 2nd Platoon of the CKM Squadron, Platoon Sergeant Zaremba Henryk, Sergeant Major Niegant Teodor, and Corporal Gotowski were injured by an artillery grenade.
The Americans1 appeared at this place and, trying to force their way through the canal, failed to build a bridge under heavy enemy fire. They thought that we had already succeeded and that they could use our passage on the other side.
The Americans are advancing north from Antwerp, and the whole operation is designed to secure Antwerp, as far north as possible, along the coast.
