Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

Characteristics of the CKM Squadron
The Heavy Machine Gun Squadron was created, as mentioned above, from the 3rd Squadron of the Support Weapons Battalion of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment1 not because it was the most suitable for this type of weapon or because it had the smallest strength, but simply because of the order of arrival. This happened as follows: each squadron, with the exception of the 4th, which went to the 10th Dragoon Regiment, formed a squadron in the supporting arms battalion. The commanders of the 1st and 2nd squadrons were allowed to choose the future form of organisation for their squadrons. This is how it happened:
The first squadron chose the anti-aircraft, the second the mortars and the third was left with no choice but the heavy machine guns.
Apparently, the decisive factor in the choice was whether or not the commander of a given squadron had a personal vehicle. As the commander of the heavy machine gun squadron did not have a car, inconformity with this position, nobody wanted to choose this squadron. The last choice fell to the squadron that was third in order, so the 3rd squadron.
As we shall see later the third squadron performed very well.
