Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

The 10th Dragoon Regiment and the 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment meanwhile occupied Chambois, a town on the main roads, 6km south-east of Trun. The German command ordered its troops to break through the encirclement at all costs. The road led through heavily wooded terrain (forests and fruit gardens). Inevitably, the retreating German troops - a good dozen or so thousand men - encountered the 3rd Rifle Brigade and the 2nd Armoured Regiment on their way.
The overwhelming forces of the enemy cut off our units who fought an extremely fierce battle (often close combat).
There was shooting all around, as the Germans also tried to break the encirclement from the East, in order to get their own troops out of the pocket1.
The most critical day was 21 August. It seemed that all Polish units on these hills would be destroyed2. In addition, there was a shortage of ammunition, food and sanitary care.
The supply transports sent four times were destroyed on the road by the Germans.
