Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

It was with the 9th Battalion on the left wing of the division.
Corporal Zając was killed southeast of Soignolles. Sergeant Bodanowicki and Sergeant Kotowski were seriously wounded.
The platoon fought well. Often it remained alone on the positions when the infantry troops could no longer endure the infernal fire of the enemy mortars. Our men, armed with their revolvers, forced the soldiers of the infantry company to stay on their positions. Sergeant Boryna slapped a cadet and took his military book for having retreated with others without having received an order.
After these few days of fighting, the men were exhausted and weakened. They were taken back to the rear where they had to crawl into the holes1 as well because the mortars and artillery guns spared no one. Our air force is not present, nor can we see the enemy planes.
Our artillery is very active.
That day, at nightfall, we withdrew to the place of the A' brigade.
