Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

The officers entered the centre of the battalion grouping and only then did the general start to walk between the lines1. He talked with the soldiers, asking them questions about everything. In the squadron he spoke with those he had fought against in Africa, namely soldiers from Rommel's army.
It was Private Jankowski whom he asked what division he was in, where he fought the English and how he got captured. Private Jankowski presented himself well, so General Monte told him that he had fought hard with General Romml's army, but he was not surprised as Rommel had good soldiers. Now he (i.e. Jankowski) will be under the orders of Gen. Montgomery.
Gen. Montgomery walked through the middle of each battalion, everywhere he asked about something, everywhere he stopped.
Then, he approached the jeep, where a megaphone was installed, and spoke to the brigade while standing on the jeep.
