Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

On 21 December, the 3rd Rifle Brigade was moved from Breda to the north-east to Capelle to further clear the area of Germans and push them away across the Meuse.
The squadron was given an individual sector for about two weeks. We were ambushed by the Germans at night which did us more harm than good.
The clearing of the so-called island1, that is the area between the Meuse and the canal, required a lot of men, especially in the 9.th Battalion.
The squadron suffered no losses during this period of fighting.
Aside from the liquidation of the island, it should be mentioned that it cost many casualties. The Germans held out in their well-built bunkers. The Polish troops were supported by British commandos without much success.
It was only after many continuous raids using air support and repeated bombing that the German bridgehead was eliminated.
