Our objective: Ostman-Baarle.
The bloodiest fighting takes place near the town of Merksplas. The Germans are well entrenched.
On 30 September in this town Private Krakus died, and here is the list of wounded: platoon leader Górski, Private Gargas, Sergeant Dachowski , Sergeant Zbychowski, Sergeant Wilewicz, Corporal Fic, Midshipman Sienko, Private Miedziński (died in the hospital), Private Kosut. The squadron's losses were considerable. Another German defence line is formed in the village of Zondereigen1 and in the surrounding forests.
The enemy introduced well-concealed anti-armour weapons and some tanks into the battle. We lost many Shermans and Cromwells.
On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October we are on the defensive, it is impossible to move, it is falling everywhere. The squadron's losses are increasing. Mainly from mortars and artillery.
On 3 October, we were helped by dive bombers which, at low altitude, swept the enemy positions.
That day the German resistance was broken. Many were taken prisoner, many were killed, few escaped.
On 4 October we occupied the village of Baarle-Nassau, located in the Netherlands.
