1st September we reach the Lambercourt area about 4 km northeast of Abbeville on the opposite side of the Somme. The bridges over the river were blown up. The following night the infantry crossed the river in boats and landed on the other shore, supported by artillery fire and heavy mortars. It occupied a wood opposite strongly protected by the enemy. Abbeville, attacked by the Podhale Battalion, was finally captured.
The sappers build a bridge, after which the whole Division goes in pursuit of the retreating Germans. CKM. platoons and mortar platoons in action. During the crossing on the Somme, Private Ryberak's Carrier drowns, having fallen from the raft.
After crossing the Somme, the pursuit continues.
5th September, we push through the Canal of Neuffosse near Blaringhem, and then march towards the Belgian border.
6th September, at 19:00, we cross the Belgian-French border heading towards the great city of Ypres.
7th September, Ypres is captured.
