Enemy positions are bombed and shelled by air and artillery.
In the Quesnay forest, the enemy was well established and we could not dislodge them.
On 14 August the air force carried out bombing raids on large enemy positions. From 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. the Lancasters1 kept flying and bombing to the point of shaking the ground. Unfortunately they bombed us too. What a criminal mistake, it looks like a betrayal2.
The bombing hit the 'A' line far to the rear and cut the Canadian artillery to pieces. The front line was bombed. Fear gripped everyone at the sight of their own aircraft. Reporters and Field Marshal Tedder3, who were watching this action from our heavy artillery positions, were also wounded.
Our artillery fired a large number of shells with very good results. After hitting the enemy's artillery, mortars and anti-tank weapons, they sent them heavy bombs which silenced them.
Our artillery supports the infantry assault with precise fire on the Quesnay forest.
