Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

On 23 May 1944, we changed our settlement place. The whole Division was moved to York. C.K.M. Squadron was quartered at Menethorpe1 near Malton, 29 kilometres from York.
The new area allowed for less waiting for regrouping and loading area. The 1st Armoured Division was assigned to the 21st Invasion Army Group under the command of General Montgomery.
It was no secret that the invasion of France was to take place. So all the orders were given, although they were kept in the strictest confidence. Our stay in the vicinity of York was from 23 May 1944 to 19 July 1944. This period was very fruitful for all units. First of all, the equipment was replenished. All modifications on equipment and additions were made: "the last button was being fitted" in the Division. Several major exercises were organised within the brigades, divisions and with the French division2.
