Kazimierz Duda C.K.M. Band of Brothers CHRONICLES DOCUMENTS

It was only after many continuous raids using air support and repeated bombing that the German bridgehead was eliminated.
The liquidation of the Germans on this 'island' took place during the period of the Rundstedt offensive in the Vosges1 . Apparently the German command wanted to hold this area at all costs in order to have an open road to Antwerp, in case of greater success of Rundstedt.
Our squadron returned to Breda on 11 January 1945 and everything had to be repaired again. The vehicles used in this difficult terrain are in a pitiful state.
The additional soldiers that the squadron has integrated in the meantime are not trained. They don't know the weapons, have no idea how to use them.
The case of the drivers is equally problematic. There is a shortage of personnel to fill the positions in the vehicles, let alone have a reserve, or even to assign them elsewhere. There have been cases where a driver has been injured and there is no one to replace him.

1 "Offensive von Rundstedt": surprise German counter-attack on 16 December 1944 in the Ardennes, not in the Vosges.
